South Mountain Complex

South Mountain Complex
Unlocking District-Scale Potential and Long-Term Growth

Beyond the defined NI 43-101 and SK-1300 compliant resource at the immediate South Mountain Mine, Thunder Mountain Gold controls a significant and highly prospective land package known as the South Mountain Complex. This larger area offers considerable exploration upside and the potential for district-scale discoveries, representing a key component of our long-term growth strategy. Our experienced geological team is actively working to unlock this potential through systematic exploration targeting several compelling geological models.

Exploring for Carbonate Replacement Deposits (CRD) and Porphyry Systems:

A primary focus within the South Mountain Complex is the exploration for large-tonnage Carbonate Replacement Deposits (CRD) and associated Copper-Molybdenum (Cu-Mo) Porphyry style mineralization. These deposit types are known globally for their significant metal endowment and are often found in geological environments analogous to that of the South Mountain district.

Preliminary geological interpretations, historical data, and ongoing geophysical surveys suggest that the conditions favorable for the formation of such deposits exist within our extensive land holdings. Targeted drilling programs are being designed to test these compelling concepts and potentially delineate substantial new resources.

The Gold Breccia Zone:
A High-Priority Gold Target

Another exciting exploration target within the South Mountain Complex is the Gold Breccia Zone. This significant geological feature, measuring approximately 5,800 feet by 1,500 feet, has yielded encouraging gold values from surface rock chip samples (ranging from 0.02 ppm to 5.8 ppm Au) and is associated with a distinct gold soil anomaly (0.02 ppm to 0.71 ppm Au).

The zone is hosted within Potassically Altered Quartz Monzonite, a geological setting that shares characteristics with major gold deposits in the prolific Battle Mountain Complex of Nevada, such as the Phoenix Mine. Delineating the extent and grade of gold mineralization within this extensive breccia zone is a high priority for Thunder Mountain Gold and represents a significant opportunity to add a substantial gold resource to our portfolio.

Systematic Exploration Across a Consolidated Land Package:

The South Mountain Complex encompasses a strategically consolidated land position that includes patented claims, owned private land, unpatented lode mining claims (with ongoing staking activities), and leased private land. This provides a large and contiguous footprint for systematic, modern exploration.

Our approach involves integrating historical data with new geological mapping, advanced geochemical surveys, and state-of-the-art geophysical techniques to identify and prioritize drill targets. For example, a 2009 soil geochemical anomaly in the LO-1 area and the identification of Silicified Quartz Monzonite Porphyry (Tqm) – a rock type often associated with intrusive-related gold and base metal deposits – highlight the continued discovery potential across the complex.

Thunder Mountain Gold is committed to a disciplined, phased exploration program designed to systematically unlock the full mineral potential of the South Mountain Complex, transforming new discoveries into defined resources and further enhancing the long-term value and production profile of this historic Idaho mining district.
